Adriana Sá
Trandisciplinary artist, performer-musician-composer, Sá faces instrument design as part of her creative process, while considering that music involves vision and space, beyond audition. She holds a PhD in Arts and Computing from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a master-equivalent-degree from Fine Arts University of Lisbon. Her research bridges creative practice and perception sciences. She is a professor at ULHT and a CICANT member, as well as the chair of ICLI 2022 and 2014. +info

Alex McLean
Musician, creative technologist and researcher working on “algorithmic patterns” in music,
textiles and dance. He created the popular free/open source live coding environment TidalCycles, and co-founded the TOPLAP live coding and Algorave movements, and the AlgoMech festival of algorithmic and mechanical movement. He currently holds a four-year UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship, hosted by independent nonprofit lab Then Try This. +info

André Feldberg
Feldberg started his career as a production assistant at radio Cultura in Brazil. After that, he became a 3D artist and worked as a visual artist in a short film funded by MIS (Image and Sound Museum) in São Paulo. He has a bachelor in radio and tv broadcasting and a graduate degree in game art. Currently, he is taking his master’s degree in game design.

André Sier
Sier works aesthetically with code, electronics, interactive and antique means, combining videogaming, installation, painting, sculpture, music, mathematics and computation. Within the last 25 years he created a wealth of works that playfully unveil spatio-temporal relations synthesised in electronic substrates. They have been presented in multiple Portuguese and international exhibitions. +info

Andreas Melo
Writer and game Designer, with multiple published video game titles. Melo graduated in History and Multimedia Application designs, and works currently as a freelance creative writer.

Anna Xambó
Senior Lecturer in Music and Audio Technology at De Montfort University and experimental electronic music producer. Her research and practice concentrate on creating sound and music computing systems looking at novel approaches to collaborative, participatory, and live coding experiences. To date, she has released three solo recordings: init (2010, Carpal Tunnel), On the Go (2013, Carpal Tunnel) and H2RI (2018, pan y rosas). + info

Atau Tanaka
Researcher in embodied musical interaction where muscle sensing turns the human body into a musical instrument. He has worked at IRCAM, Apple France, Sony CSL. Album releases on Superpang, SubRosa, Touch/Ash, Sirr-ecords, and performances/exhibitions at Ars Electronica, ZKM, SFMOMA, WOMAD and Sonar festivals. He works at Bristol Interaction Group, MSH Paris Nord and Goldsmiths where he is commissioning editor for the Sonics Series at Goldsmiths Press. +info

Bruno Pereira
Singer, performer, teacher and researcher, Pereira holds a degree in lyrical singing and a post-graduation in opera. Working closely with composers, he premiered several new works. He has been exploring the field of contemporary performance and vocal improvisation, performing and teaching in very different contexts all over Europe and Brazil. He has been promoting a series of performative and interdisciplinary gestures, creating possibilities for a voice other. +info

Boris Debackere
Artist and researcher lecturing at LUCA School of Arts, KU Leuven. Debackere is currently serving as head of production at V2_Lab in Rotterdam, an instigator of artistic projects that interrogate and illuminate contemporary issues in art, science, technology, and society. In the field of digital art, his practice has a multimedial character with a recurring key concept: to experience the materiality and performativity of a medium that might appear to be a virtual environment. +info

Chris Kiefer
Computer-musician, musical instrument designer and Lecturer in Music Technology at the University of Sussex. As a live-coder he performs under the name ‘Luuma’. He plays an augmented self-resonating cello as half of improv-duo Feeback Cell, and with the feedback-drone-quartet ‘Brain Dead Ensemble’.  He co-runs the AHRC Feedback Musicianship Network. His research specialises in musician-computer interaction, physical computing, machine learning and complex systems. +info

Diogo Vasconcelos
Master in Architecture by FCTUC, Vasconcelos is currently pursuing a PhD in Media Arts by Universidade Lusófona. He was a member of NU magazine focusing on theory and critique of architecture, and is now the director of PISTA! Magazine, looking into all subjects that gravitate around Portuguese Club Culture with particular interest in Electronic Music. He is also a music producer as well as manager of Discos Extendes label.

Eleonora Oreggia / xname
Media artist, performer and composer who works with light, sound, dust, and the electromagnetic field. PhD in Media & Arts Technology from Queen Mary University of London, MPhil in Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths College, Laurea (Cum Laude) in DAMS from University of Bologna. Founder of Nebularosa Records and inventor of Rebus. Currently teaching at RCA in London. Her first book, “Il segno audiovisivo”, was published by Meltemi Editore in Milan in April 2022. +info 

Felipe Portela
Portela’s research focuses on the characterisation of complex turbulent flows through large scale, high resolution numerical simulations. With a background in aerospace engineering from IST Lisbon (BSc) and TU Delft (MSc), he defended his PhD titled “Turbulence Cascade in an Inhomogeneous Turbulent Flow” at Imperial College London in 2017 and is currently working at the Lille Fluid Mechanics Laboratory in France. +info

Felipe Sussuarana
Sussuarana came from Brazil to Portugal four and half years ago to start a game studio with an old friend: Planetfall Studios. He published a game called Defentron on Steam and Switch. He has a major in Business Administration and is currently doing a Masters in Game Design and Playful Media at Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias.

Fernando Soares
A Game Developer, officially certified by Unity as “Professional Programmer”. Soares worked on various GameDev projects in different platforms, from VR/AR to multiplayer pc games, mobile games and Nintendo Switch. Currently, he is working at Virtuleap as a VR Developer.

Filipe Silva
Game Developer currently enrolled at Lusófona’s Bachelor’s in Computing Engineering.

Gerard Roma
Roma releases and performs experimental electronic and computer music under different aliases. His work includes live coding, corpus-based music and participatory performance, often chasing some fragile balance between minimalism and chaos. +info

Gonçalo Gato
Composer, programmer, guitarist and sound recordist. Gato mainly explores computer-assisted composition for acoustic and electroacoustic media. He was one of the Panufnik Composers associated with the London Symphony Orchestra, subsequently becoming composer-in-residence at Casa da Música, Porto. An OpenMusic expert and Max programmer, Gato has produced a body of musical works and texts which explore the human/machine interface. He teaches at ULHT and is a CICANT member. +info

Georg Trogemann 
Professor of Experimental Informatics at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne since 1994. Journeyman’s examination as a carpenter. Studied computer science and mathematics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, 1990 doctorate on massively parallel algorithms. From 1997 – 1999 and 2004 – 2006 vicerector at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. His current interests include experimental algorithms, artificial intelligence and poetics of technology. +info

Helena Marinho
Pianist and Associated Professor at the University of Aveiro, Marinho combines her performing career with academic and artistic research. As a pianist, she has presented solo and chamber concerts in Portugal and abroad, and recorded 12 CDs. Her publications include book chapters and articles, and she has led three multiannual musical research projects financed by the Portuguese Government Foundation for Science and Technology, and European funds, the most recent one on music and experimentation. +info

Isabel Valverde
Transdisciplinary practice-based artistic researcher in Somatic-Technological Dance. Ph.D. in Dance History and Theory (UCRiverside) and Master in Creative Arts: Interdisciplinary Arts (SFSU/IAC). Author of the thesis/book “Interfacing Dance and Technology: a theoretical framework for performance in the digital domain”. Works independently and associated with research groups (GAIPS/INESC-IST, CIAC/UAb) developing solo and collaborative projects and publications. 

Ivo Louro
Master in Environmental Engineering, Louro is a PhD researcher (@ CIUHCT / NOVA SCT) in History of Science and Technology, while also concluding a second master in Sound Production and Technology (@ ULHT). His interests focus on sound and listening as epistemological tools in traditional and techno-scientific settings, as well as on how humans and non-humans relate to their environment through the sonic experience. His artistic practice focuses on experiencing ecological problems through data sonification.

Jamie Perera
Perera uses sound to deconstruct objects in ways that create provoking experiences for listeners. His work explores radical deconstruction, re-imagining and reclamation, whilst challenging the conventions between music, sound and data. +info

JE Solo
Multi-disciplinary performance and media artist, writer and musician, best known for their work in Canadian music, and as a trailblazer in machinima, hybrid-reality, and live and networked performance art. They create artworks that merge traditional practices (theatre, writing) with technology, (virtual/online/game environments). Recently JE has been exploring creation using machine learning, quantum computing, and Artificial Intelligence. +info

Joana Barros
Barros loves a variety of artistic forms and approaches, and is currently focusing on design. She showcased her artwork in exhibitions, illustrated a juvenile book for several city councils, and was awarded in multiple art contests. She has a bachelors in visual arts and technologies and is currently taking a master in game design and playful media at Lusófona University.

João Frade
Frade started his career as a Game Developer in the project GBL4deaf on a game for deaf students. He has a graduation degree in Videogames with Lusófona University. Today, while taking a Master in Game Design and Playful Media, he works again as a research fellow, now in a game for children with ASD – part of the project ASDigital.

John Klima
Klima has been working within the realm of digital media since digital media existed. Always interested in connecting the virtual to the real, with a focus on video game technologies, he wrote his first text based video game in 1982, a simulation of resource management to control rats in an urban setting. Whacking them with a big stick seemed to be the most cost effective solution. He is currently an avid bee keeper. +info

Jonas Runa
Artist – Researcher – University professor. His artwork was presented at Museo Guggenheim Bilbao, 55th and 56th Venice Biennale, 798 Art District, ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum, Galerie Scheffel, Logos Foundation. Principal Investigator of the FCT project ‘Sound at the edge of consciousness’, and Co-PI of the FCT project ‘Technologically Expanded Performance’. José Gomes Pinto 
PhD in Philosophy, specialised in Aesthetics. Professor in ECATI. He is currently also an invited Professor at Fine Arts Faculty of Lisbon University. He is Head of  CICANT (Center for Research in Applied Communication, Culture and New Technologies). His main areas of interest are Aesthetics and Theory of Art, Media Art and Media Theory, Philosophy of Technology, Politics, and the Media. +info

Kate Sicchio
Sicchio is a choreographer, media artist and performer. Her work explores the interface between choreography and technology with wearable technology, live coding, and real time video systems. Her work has been shown internationally at venues such as PS122 (NYC), Banff New Media Institute (CAN), Arnolfini Arts (UK). She is currently Assistant Professor of Dance and Media Technology at Virginia Commonwealth University in both the Department of Dance + Choreography and Department of Kinetic Imaging. +info

Kazike
His first contact with the Moog Synthesizer was in the 1970ths, and since then his fascination with it has never left him. After building his first analogue synthesiser in the 1980ths, Kazike lived a digital break for 20 years as he became involved with the developing digital video technology.  But then, in 2003, he returned to his former passion and created “The Return of the Mammoth”, the evolution and refinement of the legendary Moog Synthesizer. Luis Claudio Ribeiro 
Professor and head of Communication Sciences Department at Lusófona University, in Lisbon. Manuel Bogalheiro
PhD in Communication Sciences – Contemporary Culture and New Technologies (FCSH – FCSH), with a thesis entitled “Materiality and Technicity: research on technical objectuality”. Maria do Mar
Violinist, performer, composer, teacher, activist. Born in Lisbon, with a trajectory starting in classical music and teaching, and later focusing on experimental and improvised music projects and performance. She has been performing in concerts, plays and films, in national and international festivals, and is a member of several experimental groups. She also curates events. She seeks in her work a broad universe, the development of a personal language, with blurred aesthetic borders where transversal possibilities open up.

Martin Howse 
Howse is occupied with an investigation of the links between the earth (geological and geophysical phenomena), software and the a/human psyche (psychogeophysics) through the construction of experimental situations (performance, laboratories, walks, and workshops), material art works, instruments, fictions, texts and software. He is equally the creator of the ongoing ERD modular synthesizer series and founder of the Tiny Mining community. +info

Miguel Carvalhais
Carvalhais is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, where he teaches computational art and design. His artistic practice often intersects with his research and spans computer music, sound art, and sound installations. He runs the Crónica label for experimental music and the xCoAx Conference on Computation, Communication, Aesthetics and X. Nuno Torres
Collaborated in a wealth of different projects that explore the performative intersection of visual arts and dance. The radio has been a regular presence in his activity; he worked in several experimental and community radio projects. In the fields of improvised and experimental music, he focuses his research upon the exploration of a wide scope of sound material, through the use of extended techniques over the alto saxophone. 

Olivier Perriquet
Artist and researcher working at the intersection of experimental cinema, expanded cinema and media archaeology with a special affinity for vision and optics. Graduated from Le Fresnoy, PhD in computational biology, has been a researcher in AI for several years at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Currently a Professor of visual arts at the Media Art School of Chalon-sur-Saône. +info

Oyvind Brandtsegg
Composer and performer working in the fields of computer improvisation and sound installations. He has a deep interest in developing new instruments and audio processing methods for artistic purposes, and he has contributed novel extensions to both granular synthesis, feedback systems, and live convolution techniques. Brandtsegg has participated on more than 25 music albums in a variety of genres. Since 2010 he is a professor of music technology at NTNU, Trondheim, Norway. +info

Paola Torres Núñez del Prado
Received an Honorary Mention in Prix Ars Electronica for AIELSON, a system developed within her residence in the Google + Machine Intelligence program 2019 – 2020. Torres proposes that we should talk about Machine Creativity. How is that creativity informing human imagination now? Photographer and Visual artist, Geraldes is a PhD student in Media and Communication Art at ULHT-ECATI. Lee is an artist and media studies researcher. Her work focuses on the epistemic grounding of visual media and the history of visual technologies. Lee completed her PhD at the IT-University of Copenhagen in 2020 with a thesis entitled Machine Learning and Notions of the Image. Rui Penha
Composer, media artist, and performer of electroacoustic music. His music is regularly recorded and played in festivals and concert halls around the western world. He has a deep interest in the relationship between music and its technology, as well as in the problems of defining and guiding artistic research. Director of Te Kōkī, New Zealand School of Music, Victoria University of Wellington, Aotearoa, Norman (NZ/FR) works on performance technologies, digital humanities, and the situated nature of cultural and artistic practices. Stella Carneiro
Film director, writer and visual artist, Carneiro has a degree in Film and Communication from FAAP/São Paulo, an M.A in Screenwriting / Kino Eyes – The European Fiction Masters, and is now a PhD student at FILMEU in Universidade Lusófona. She worked on many short-films, features and television series for Brazil’s film production companies such as Gullane, Paris Entertainment, TV Globo and REC Produtores. + info

Stephen Whitmarsh
Psychology degree from the University of Amsterdam. PhD in neuroscience at the Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroscience. MA in Art and Media Production at Linköping University. He develops the open-source EEGsynth software for Brain-Computer-Music-Interfaces, and is co-founder of the 1+1=3 and OuUnPo performative art-science collectives. He works at the Paris Brain Institute studying epilepsy, and at MSH Paris Nord, as part of the BBDMI team. +info

Teresa Cruz
Associate Professor at NOVA University of Lisboa (UNL), Cruz teaches in the field of Media Aesthetics. Todd Cochrane
Educator in Information Technology and software developer for science and art research, Cochrane facilitates the transfer of technical skills and develops educational opportunities. In the Senses Places research project he has designed and developed systems for live sensing data and actuating environmental effects for dance contexts, at a distance. +info

Thor Magnusson
Professor of future music in the Music Department at the University of Sussex and a research professor at the Iceland University of the Arts. He has recently served as an Edgard-Varèse guest professor at the Technische Universität Berlin. Research interests include musical performance, improvisation, new technologies for musical expression, live coding, musical notation, artificial intelligence and computational creativity.
